Fronting onto Rockefeller Park deep in Battery Park City, the curvy-faced Riverhouse condo development is getting flashy. The through-building passageway that will lead to the in-the-works extension of Teardrop Park has been tricked out with lighting and refractive glass, creating a frame for the sloping Irish Hunger Memorial just to the south. The 31-story U-shaped luxury building?with eco-friendly charms that lured Leonardo DiCaprio?was designed by Polshek Partnership, which brought us the Standard Hotel over the High Line. Riverhouse is nearing completion, and one future tenant is getting the sweetest of deals.
The building at 1 River Terrace is getting ready for the arrival of Poets House, a not-for-profit group that will be living rent-free for the next 60 years in 11,000 square feet of space stretching across two floors at the corner of Murray Street. The grand opening for Poets House is set for late September, and then the bookworms will be able to show off their new space laid out by architect Louise Braverman: an impressive two-story lobby and exhibition space, a 100-seat lecture hall and a library holding 50,000 volumes. Those Hudson River views should lead to some poetic inspiration.
