Whole Foods to Gowanus: How 'Bout Some To-F-U?

New, 3 comments

The great big Gowanus Whole Foods, which made its debut more than two years ago and has been on life support ever since, has finally given up the ghost. Notice arrives via the Brooklyn Paper (picking up a Brooklyn the Borough scoop), which relays a company spokesperson's devastating words: "Whole Foods does not have immediate plans to open in Brooklyn.” The 64,000-square-foot superstore?which promised to bring many organic varieties of gentrification to Third Avenue?showed some late signs of life, but apparently those were just the final throes. Of all the possible causes of death, we'll choose the hopelessly polluted site as our favorite. The gourmet grocery wars of 2007 feel like a century ago, don't they? Ah, memories.
