Floorplan Anti-Porn: Ruth Madoff Downsizing on UES?

New, 19 comments

Her fancy $7 millionish Upper East Side penthouse having been ripped right out of her hands, Bride of Ponzi Ruth Madoff finds herself suddenly homeless. Predicting her next move has been something of a parlor game for the tabloids, and now the Post believes it has some concrete Ruthian intel: her broker was spotted checking out a condo in the Trafalgar House at 120 East 90th Street in Carnegie Hill. A lowly little place, at that, at least for a Madoff: 481 square feet, touch-ups needed, asking price of $465,000. This is slightly hard to believe!

The Post writes that the apartment, #8H, is the only unit in the 15-story building that's for sale. That's not quite true: There's another studio on the market at Trafalgar House, which curiously appears to have two listings and two different asking prices. It's in better condition than #8H, but there's a catch: A rental tenant is in place for two years. We think Ruth might steer clear of investing for a while.

But what about rentals? That was expected out of Bernie's lady, seeing as how she's a bit short on cash flow after being left with just $2.5 million. Plus, her lawyer told the Post, "Given her economic circumstances, it's completely ridiculous to even suggest that she would be looking to buy something." A-ha! Well, there's a handful of available rentals in the building per a scan of StreetEasy, from a 550-square-footer going for $2,795/month to a 2BR asking $5,000. How would the neighbors welcome her? Said one, "Oh, my God, that would be so horrible." Uh, she might want to keep an eye on her belongings down in the laundry room.
