That's the supposition from Benjamin James Real Estate's Douglas Wagner, who shares observations about "Landlords saying NO" on his blog: "By Friday evening, applications began rolling in, and on Saturday, the Landlord’s office was responding to offers only $50 below the asking rent with resounding NO... Other major landlords have discontinued paying broker fees altogether. One large firm, in particular, has done away with free rent incentives and broker fees in their many Manhattan buildings. The only unusual perk this landlord offers is no security deposit for credit-worthy applicants!" Hmm. Given that just about anyone can get a rent reduction these days, color us dubious. Anyone on the hunt care to weigh in? [Benjamin James Blog]
