UrbanShed invites architects to rethink the sidewalk sheds that have marred construction sites in New York City since roughly the time of Peter Stuyvesant's epic cottage renovation. According to CityRoom, "Organizers are throwing around tantalizing concepts: Transclucent materials! High-strength plastics! Natural light! Sustainability!" Concepts aren't due until October, but even then, don't hold your breath on sheds getting any prettier: "Whether the designs are adopted is ultimately a choice of the three dozen or so scaffolding companies around the city that actually lease the sheds."
