Destructoporn: Red Hook's 101 Beard Street Coming Down

Red Hook's Revere Sugar Refinery was leveled. (Thank you, Thor Equities.) Todd Shipyards is no more. (Thank you, Ikea.) But for a long time, the solitary, Hopperesque, red-brick warehouse that is 101 Beard Street hung on, reminding shoppers at Fairway and Ikea that Red Hook once used to make things, not just sell things. It also made for nice, atmospheric viewing from nearby, Ikea-built Erie Basin Park. But, as was recently noted, the Dept. of Buildings recently gave the go-ahead to tear the shoreline hulk down. As of today, the work is about halfway done. It won't see Labor Day. —Lost City
