Oops: NYU Tears Down That Wall at Provincetown Playhouse

New, 11 comments

Non-shocker: the ongoing preservation work at Greenwich Village's Provincetown Playhouse has taken another nasty turn. According to an article in The Villager, work at the site was stopped Tuesday after neighbors found that construction workers had removed part of a wall that was supposed to be saved. At the helm of the criticism? Neighborhood watchdog Andrew Berman of the
Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, of course. And like most good arguments, it's really a communication meltdown: while NYU says the wall came down because it was found to be made "partly of rubble," and was thus unstable, officials also admit they should have shared their findings before ripping the thing down.
