On the border of Brooklyn and Queens in Howard Beach (or Ozone Park or East New York or maybe Lindenwood?nobody's willing to claim it), The Hole is a triangular wedge of land so below grade that homes there aren't in the city's sewer system, and, Nathan Kensinger writes, "many residents keep a boat parked in the driveway." It's also a mob dumping ground and home to many a failed development. Beyond that we don't know much about The Hole, except that after looking at Kensinger's photo gallery, we're pretty sure we never want to go there.
