When Friends of the High Line made rumblings about its (now "on hold") proposal to tax local property owners to fund park upkeep, it opened the group up to all sorts of new scrutiny, and now the Times is curious why FHL co-founder Robert Hammond makes so much money. Hammond is paid $250k a year, and the non-profit is quick to point out that the salary is paid with private money. That's less than the prez of the Central Park Conservancy ($364,000) but $45,000 more than NYC's parks commish. FHL probably wishes it had never pulled this can of worms off the shelf.
