Influential American architect Charles Gwathmey, the Modernism disciple who founded Gwathmey Siegel & Associates in 1968, died from cancer yesterday at the age of 71. Gwathmey's New York portfolio includes the International Center of Photography in Midtown, the 1992 addition to Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim and, more recently, Astor Place's loved/loathed Sculpture for Living. According to his bio Gwathmey also taught at Pratt and Cooper Union. [NYT]
