Willets Point famously lives off the city's sewer grid, but the Iron Triangle may soon be ditching the septic tanks?just in time for the glitzy makeover! The Village Voice's Runnin' Scared blog points out that the $100 million recently allocated by the city for 14 capital projects in Queens includes cashola to bring Willets Point's waste disposal up to date. All it took was a controversial rezoning, a massive redevelopment plan and the eventual buying out/ouster of dozens of guys you'd never want to find yourself in an alley fight with. Simple!
