The community board that rules Williamsburg usually hands out liquor licenses like candy corn on Halloween, but no longer! A CB1 committee denied a license for a new wine bar on Metropolitan Ave., and though the vote is only advisory, it may signal a sea change for the 'hood. Said one neighbor: "The area is becoming unlivable. What we need are businesses that serve our community, not a transient community." The bar's owner responded, "Drunken frat boys don't come to drink an $11 glass of wine, grab an indigenous bite to eat, and listen to jazz." [BK Paper]
