"One would hope the commission crumbled Nouvel's cookie b/c it was trying to avoid another eventual Midtown eyesore - e.g., the GM Building. Or b/c it realizes that height is not a prerequisite for good architecture. But couldn't they come up w/ a better way to reject the design (e.g., withholding approval until certain changes are made) than lopping 200 feet of the thing? Apparently modern architecture is simply incapable of complementing or equaling the stature of old icons. So why give it a chance to try?"?StructureHub [Ouroussoff: Hope for Atlantic Yards, Not So Much for Midtown]
