In April the Parks Department said its study of the structural stability of the New York State Pavilion (home to Philip Johnson's World's Fair watchtowers) was coming soon, but the Daily News reports the bad news?and it's expected to be bad news?is still nowhere to be found. Why? The DN speculates that the city-run Parks Department is withholding the report so the state's Board of Historic Preservation designates the pavilion a landmark, which would prevent it from being demolished using federal or state funds. Sneaky! [NYDN; previously]
