The period of relative peace and tranquility in Washington Square Park is coming to an end, because the WSP Blog's Cathryn Swan reports that Phase II of the park's renovation is about to kick off. Phase I ended up being beloved by many who protested the fountain's makeover, but this stage has some contorversies of its own. It includes more uncomfortable benches, the relocation of the dog run and the complete rebuilding of the loved/hated asphalt mounds. Sections of the park will be closed. More deets here. [WSP Blog]
