Floorplan Porn: Bearish Duplex at 834 Fifth

New, 14 comments

The co-op at 834 Fifth Avenue is routinely in the running for the title of the city's most exclusive bastion of billionaires, and as befitting an Upper East Side co-op of such pedigree and inflated importance, glimpses inside are all too rare. We take 'em when we can get 'em, and this latest peek is a treat. It comes from a duplex just below Rupe's place in the Rosario Candela-designed building, owned by Broadway legend Hal Prince and now on the market through the Fox Residential Group for $33 million. It's 11 rooms (albeit light on beds) and 4,750 square feet of old-school UES opulence, and broker Barbara Fox tells the Observer, "The only thing somebody would want to change is the décor, because it's a very personal statement of the owner's." Sounds like broker code for "ugly," so let's have a looksie inside.

We've seen worse in the 10021, that's for sure, and how about that snazzy view from the library? "You can watch the Central Park Zoo polar bears," chirps the listing. And throw them the remains of a misbehaving servant, we imagine. Now there's a real Fifth Avenue amenity! Wonder if Naomi Campbell can scrape together the cash.
