Second Round of Cosmos Approved for Tribeca

New, 5 comments

It's a big day at the Landmarks Preservation Commission (more on that later), but the first bit of LPC news is an approval the almighty panel actually handed out earlier this month. Tribeca's Cosmopolitan Hotel?the 165-year-old West Broadway institution?now has the green light to build a six-story annex next door at West Broadway and Reade Street, on the current site of a two-story stucco eyesore home to a Mary Ann's Mexican restaurant. The big white budget hotel has been lobbying for the red-brick addition for months, and the approved design will add 25 rooms. It's unclear when construction will begin (city approval is still needed), but get this: The hotel's owners supposedly secured financing! Tribeca never ceases to amaze.
