Beary Sad News

Cross the annual West Village Leather & Bear Street Fair off your Columbus Day weekend calendars for this year. Robert Valin, the fair's director, tells the Villager he's called the fetish festivities off after the city refused to let the bears onto West 13th Street. Valin blamed The Standard, which said the bear fair didn't "fit the image of the hotel." Pot, meet kettle. Also on tap that weekend in the Meatpacking District is the Food & Wine Festival, which probably didn't want BDSM bears in attendance either. But Annie Washburn, executive director of the food and wine event, hopes that "next year we can all work together and coordinate." It's a date! [Villager; previously]
