It wasn't long ago when the Harlem-based Zinc Plate Press Blog brought us word (and photos!) of a shanty built on an empty lot at Frederick Douglass Boulevard and 117th Street. It had air conditioning. Air conditioning! The man living in the cozy studio said he was a trained electrician, and his goal was to get through the summer and then move on. He's still there, but his ingenious set-up has suffered a setback.
Now, per ZPP, the shanty has been disassembled and the man is sleeping on the sidewalk. Talk about a housing bust. Hey, there's always Williamsburg.
