Artists have been commissioned to tart up some of Lower Manhattan's concrete barriers and fences, and in an editorial the Post slams the practice. It's all about the message: "How long before freelance 'street artists' begin tagging every vertical surface in sight? In the '70s, out-of-control graffiti came to symbolize an out-of-control -- and dangerous -- city, especially in the subways...Given the pace of redevelopment Downtown, no one should be surprised if the festooned barriers and fences take almost as long to come down. (Indeed, the Port Authority mural will probably end up being landmarked.)" [NYP]
