With the departure of the Pearl Theatre Company from 80 St. Marks Place, East Villagers feared the worst for what was to come at the historic theater space?but it's staying a community theater. The building's owners still live above the theater, and are sticking to the mission. Also, EV Grieve reports, they're opening a "nautically themed cafe" called William Barnacle Scott in the former concession area. It will close at 6 p.m. and be, "A quiet cafe where people can hear each other talk, and you can hear yourself think." [Villager; EV Grieve]
