Impaled by Gehry's Falling Debris; Stuy Town React-o-Matic

New, 11 comments

FIDI?As previously reported, several Financial District blocks were closed today due to falling debris, including from the under-construction 76-story Beekman Tower. A tipster sent in some scenes. Speaking of the Beekman, the Broadsheet Daily spoke with a guy whose car was impaled by a 10-inch turnbuckle that allegedly fell from the building?while he was in the front seat. He might not be feeling Frank Gehry's skyscraper anymore: "I am not somebody who is automatically against the idea of large buildings. I'm beginning to think this tower is too tall for the neighborhood in which it's located. We have very narrow streets here, with a lot of people living nearby." [CurbedWire; Broadsheet]

STUY TOWN?Tishman Speyer is out, and politicians are lining up to comment on the future of Stuyvesant Town. Some samplings from a flurry of press releases. "To those creditors I say, first and foremost, the upkeep of ST/PCV must not be compromised and the tenants’ quality of life must be ensured."?State Sen. Tom Duane; "The creditors must commit to upholding promises made to tenants, including maintaining all available services and current rent rates."?Public Advocate Bill de Blasio. [CurbedWire Inbox]
