Astoria's Newest Bridge

Astoria was up scum creek, so last month a pair of local artists decided to create a paddle. They built the Astoria Scum River Bridge, a seven-foot long wooden footbridge --"dedicated to the safety and comfort of the pedestrian" -- over the neighborhood's "little nightmare," a leak in the 33rd Street rail viaduct. The locals became attached, so even though Amtrak fixed the problem yesterday, the little bridge will be staying where it is. And let us all say: aw! [NYP]
