Trump International Penthouse Auctioned for $31M, Pre-Renovation

New, 4 comments

A foreclosed 5,500-square-foot penthouse at the Trump International Hotel and Tower at 1 Central Park West went under the gavel yesterday in bankruptcy court, ending a sad saga of financial troubles. Once upon a time, the 5BR, 6.5BA place belonged to Italian film producer Vittorio Cecchi Gori, who was arrested for bankruptcy in '08. Then the apartment went into contract for $18.5 million to a Russian family, who walked away from their deposit fearing high renovation costs. But perhaps there's a happy ending? The unit, listed for $21 million, sold for $31 million at auction, the Post reports. The buyer? Hidden behind an LLC, but potentially connected to Malaysian big spender Jho Lo. One source tells the Post the unit has been completely gutted and could cost $10 million to renovate. A look at the floorplan suggests the same.
