LES Luxury Rental Building Proposes $2,800/Month Studios

New, 11 comments

Just as we were about to settle in for our Friday afternoon zone-out, we caught site of this item over on the Lo-Down about a residential building planned for the northwest corner of Avenue D and Houston. More specifically, a luxury rental building planned for the northwest corner of Avenue D and Houston. A luxury rental building with 600-square-foot studios that, "based on current market conditions," are expected rent for about $2,800 per month. To which we say: ?! The developer, an unnamed former beer distributor, is currently purchasing the city-owned lot needed for the project for more than $1 million, and Community Board 3's land use and zoning committee approved the project last night. Apart from a few minor grumbles about affordable housing and the community garden that will be lost when the building is built, CB 3 seemed mostly concerned about the hours of the building's roof deck. Us, we'd like to be beamed to the alternate NYC where studios on Avenue D and Houston currently rent for $2,800 a month, cuz it sounds a lot livelier than this one.
