New York Mag archicritic Justin Davidson is none too fond of the renderings for Park51, the planned Lower Manhattan Islamic community center. To us, the interiors looked a little like Jean Nouvel's Tower Verre, but to Davidson, they look like nothing much at all. And therein lies the problem! "You would think...the architects would make the logic of this location seem inescapable. They might have given more than a perfunctory nod to the financial district’s modernist towers....[But] Soma has imagined a generically ornate box that could be dropped in another neighborhood."
