The absentee owner of a derelict Bed-Stuy lot has shown up to demand rent after neighbors converted the plot into a garden. When the landlord saw the hijacking/beautification of the 16-by-13 lot, he locked it up and asked for $1,000 in monthly rent or a $750,000 buyout. His lawyer tells the Daily News he may drop the rent to $1 per year if the gardeners pay the liability insurance. Since when do we negotiate with such cruel and calculating eco-terrorists? [NYDN]
