Don't Gimme Shelter

New, 5 comments

The operators of Greenpoint's planned controversial homeless shelter are trying to win political support, but it sounds like the shelter will need more than that to move ahead. The building is currently filled with hipsters, and therein lies one of the problems: "The Department of Homeless Services said that a lawyer is looking into options for HELP USA to take control of the building, which might include evicting or buying out the artists. HELP USA also would need to get a zoning change from manufacturing to residential." [NYP; previously]
