Moynihan Station's Long-Awaited First Phase Breaking Ground

We thought this day might never come: after two decades of planning and waiting, a bunch of important people will be ceremonially breaking ground for Moynihan Station today. The hardhat wearing and shovel holding kicks off only the first, $267 million phase of the approximately $1 billion project. But that's gotta mean some visible progress, right? Er, sort of. The first phase involves expanding Penn Station's western concourse, giving the Farley Post Office?eventually to become home to a new Amtrak station?new entrances, and improving ventilation. It's also got transportation officials saying things like, "Even if nothing else happens, this is money well spent." Some would beg to differ, but luckily, current predictions have that second phase set to finish in 2016.
