Shovels held by important local politicians ceremonially hit ground yesterday to mark the start of construction on the Elliott Chelsea, a new 168-unit middle class-housing building from the architects at GF55 Partners. And we're sure the neighbors were thrilled! Or not. DNAinfo doesn't report any angry neighbor sightings on the scene, but nearby residents have previously mentioned a few reasons for displeasure. The new Elliott Chelsea building co-opted a name and some parking spaces from the Chelsea Elliott Houses next door. Adding insult to injury, the construction crew chopped down the Chelsea Elliott Houses' big London Plane tree and ignored requests for tenant input into future arboricide decisions. But hey, any Chelsea residents itching for a fight still have a chance with the homeless shelter lawsuit down the street.
