Riverside Center Sails Through City Planning Commission

New, 8 comments

Gary Barnett and his team at Extell probably feel like they could walk on water this morning. And soon enough, they can! Despite a certain lack of enthusiasm from the local Upper West Side community board, Extell's Riverside Center megaproject sailed through the City Planning Commission yesterday with a 12-1 vote. (The lone dissenting voice brought up the neighborhood's school concerns.) Not only that?DNAinfo reports that the commission was extremely excited about the design of the project. Commission chair Amanda Burden praised the "distinctive and compelling" architecture of Extell's five planned towers and the project's "thoughtfully designed public realm." Which makes us wonder if the commission got a peek at some newer renderings.
