NYPD stats are pointing towards a rise in both crime and drug arrests in Central Park. Overall crime has jumped 45% , drug arrests have gone up 103%, grand larceny up 60% and arrests for robbery went up 73%. However it's not all bad, with this eloquent statement coming from a "police source", saying ""Since [the NYPD] were getting their asses handed to them over the summer, they have stepped up getting out there and dealing with quality-of-life issues. Downtown responded and they flooded the park [with new officers]. It's paying off. The new officers are very much needed. We were really down in numbers." [Gothamist]
