Stadium Long Gone, But Park's Stairway to Nowhere Lives On

New, 1 comment

All the hubbub down at the World Financial Center has put staircases to things that no longer exist firmly on our radar. Here's another! Ephemeral New York has an update on the old decrepit staircase in Highbridge Park at around 158th Street and Edgecombe Avenue in the Harlem/Washington Heights DMZ that used to lead to the (since demolished) Polo Grounds stadium, home to the New York Giants baseball team. Status: still decrepit!

In 2008, City Room reported on a push to restore the staircase, but it appears the $1.2 million hasn't been raised. Still looks better than the Yankees starting pitching.
