Inside a Fake Fifth Avenue Maisonette (Leave Your Birds Behind!)

As the medical industry becomes one huge conglomerate, the days of private medical practices tucked into residential buildings are coming to an end. But what to do with the offices themselves, several of which are located within the Gold Coast's poshest co-ops? Easy: Turn 'em into maisonettes and make bank! Like at 927 Fifth Avenue (former home of Mary Tyler Moore and current digs of Paula Zahn) where the medical office is on the market for $8.9 million?as an "exquisite private home with a large entrance gallery, double living room, media room, formal dining room, 3-4 bedrooms, 2 maids rooms, 4-5 baths, eat-in kitchen, and butler pantry." Only none of that exists yet, so the listing has renderings of the imaginary apartment. Do the ultra-wealthy lack vision?

If 927 Fifth Avenue sounds familiar, it's probably because the 1917 building, which has only 12 apartments (right now, anyway!) on its 12 floors, ruffled some feathers when it tried to evict beloved hawks Pale Male and Lola a few years back, before bowing to public pressure. Good luck getting approved by that board! Here's the proposed floorplan and the current sickly layout:
