Steve Earle Ditching Greenwich Village?; Ghost Building in Chelsea

New, 7 comments

GREENWICH VILLAGE?In late September, 20 Jones Street, the four-story Greek Revival townhouse of purple door fame hit the market for $7.9 million, or for $17.45 million when paired with neighbor 18 Jones Street to make a 42-foot-wide behemoth. A tipster is alarmed! "A few years ago I learned that Steve Earle lived on Jones Street. So I walked over there and noticed that there are no doorman buildings and only two townhouses. One of them, 20 Jones, had the words 'S. Earle' next to one of the doorbells. Now I see 18 Jones and 20 Jones listed with Elliman. Do you have any insight about whether he is selling? And leaving New York?" Nope, and the broker stonewalled us, so feel free to speculate! Oh, and this is who Steve Earle is, btw. [CurbedWire Inbox]

CHELSEA?Is the Dark Lord Chelsea a ghost building? A tipster writes, "Do you have any information on this location? 305 West 16th Street, across from my apt, was finished over a year ago and is still not occupied with the exception of retail street level." It took us a while to ID the building because we had been using the 131 Eighth Avenue address. The building was supposed to be rentals. Anyone got the scoop? [CurbedWire Inbox]
