How Robert De Niro Got His Penthouse Through the LPC

New, 8 comments

A design for the penthouse at Robert de Niro's Greenwich Hotel was finally approved earlier this week, after De Niro went several rounds with the Landmarks Preservation Commission. An Observer slideshow traces the evolution of the penthouse, from the mansard roof that went up despite not being approved by the LPC to the new version, which will have a pergola and a more cubic feel. The alternative would have been an LPC order for De Niro to tear down the penthouse. Agree/disagree with the LPC's choice?
