After an outcry from preservationists, the Central Park boathouse will not be getting its proposed "beachy" makeover. The boathouse's operator withdrew his application for a redesign of the bar, ramp, railings, and deck after members of the Design Commission criticized the plan and preservation group Landmarsk West delivered this verdict: "The bar's design recalls, first, a suburban mall kiosk and, second, a beach-side rest station. But at no point a neo-Victorian pavilion befitting central park." [A Walk in the Park]
