It's no longer just the old New York Times clock that's drawing attention to the building at 229 West 43rd Street. Bowlmor Bob is now out there, ready to welcome pin jockeys to the vast new Bowlmor Lanes Times Square. Starting tomorrow, the 50 lanes set within the former Times HQ will open, with an entrance on West 44th Street opposite Shubert Alley, right next to where King Tut is showing his stuff. Inside is a $25 million theme land paying tribute to several NYC neighborhoods. And why pay the madcap MTA to travel around town when a pseudo subway, all spic and span, is available inside? As the Bowlmor gang says: "Experience the whole of New York City without ever leaving Times Square."
Last week the building's former tenant had a story and slide show explaining the transformation. The old third-floor newsroom is now where Tribeca butts up against Times Square. It's also the spot where busy celeb chef David Burke is offering his expertise for tasty treats in the Stadium Grill, including Bowlmor Bob's Badass Burger. Times Square is once again in the gutter, but who was expecting this?
