Steve Cuozzo is beating the drum against the NYPD's plan to impose daunting security screening measures at the World Trade Center, which Cuozzo writes will ruin the WTC's "one aspect [that] has remained above criticism: its open and accessible nature." The NYPD says it will only focus on vehicles, not pedestrian access, but The Cuozz thinks that's not good enough: "But for what that can mean, check out Wall and Broad streets near the New York Stock Exchange. Yes, you can walk there. But barricades, fences, vehicle-inspection turntables and omnipresent canine units have made it difficult to sell apartments at the Setai building." We thought it was the crappy carpeting! [NYP; previously]
