The Bushwick-Williamsburg DMZ's one-block Vandevoort Place was once known as "crack alley" for its high frequency of car break-ins, drugs, and prostitution. Soon, it may become a sculpture park. Local artists are trying to raise the $64,000 needed to permanently close the street and get it rezoned as a park. The whole process could take five or 10 years, so, car thieves and drug dealers, better make use of the street while you still can. [BK Paper]
