Multicolored UES Townhouse Won't Make Any Money

New, 8 comments

The 1868 townhouse at 232 East 61st Street was riding high in early 2008, when it changed hands for $9.5 million after selling for $3.3 million in 1999. But the house's bubble burst right on schedule?by the time it returned to market with some fanciful wallpaper for the not-much-higher ask of $10.25M in early 2010, it couldn't find a buyer. While the rest of us were off eating Turkey last week, the 7BR, 6BA house switched brokers and chopped prices for a fresh ask of $9.45 million, less than its 2008 sales price. We still don't have the cash to get into that gated garden, but that won't stop us from looking.
