Today in wacky lawsuits, British hotelier Beatrice Tollman is suing her former butler, Arthur Gillam, for stealing her East 50th Street co-op. Tollman bought the apartment for Gillam to live in while he worked for the family (which has since fled the U.S. to escape tax-evasion charges), and he allegedly vacated it when he quit the job in 2001. But he's since moved back in and even become president of the co-op board. Tollman wants Gillam out and $500,000 in damages, which is not coincidentally the value of the apartment she now wants to sell. [NYP]
