WILLIAMSBURG?Surrounding by new condos, the old empty garage and its attached dirt lot at N. 7th and Berry Streets sticks out like a sore thumb in Williamsburg, whereas it used to be the new condos that stood out. What will happen to this plum development site? A few people have taken notice of some action at the site, including the Artists & Fleas folks, and a tipster who wrote: "Crews fixing the roof of the old gas station but they didn't say anything about who or what - someone moving in finally?" We didn't notice any permit activity, so anyone got the scoop? [CurbedWire Inbox]
BRONX?The next time you shake your head while cutting a big maintenance check, remember, it could be worse. You could own Edgar Allan Poe's old place! The Bronx cottage where Poe moved to try and alleviate his wife's tuberculosis (it didn't work) costs $300,000 a year to maintain and is in the midst of a $1 million restoration. Quoth the raven: That's a lot of Benjamins! The Bronx County Historical Society is trying to raise $2 million for the cottage's upkeep. Check out this Daily News story on the effort. [NYDN]
