Dumbo kingpins Two Trees Management have been wanting to get into the burgeoning Williamsburg hotel game for a couple of years, but the building the company bought at Wythe Avenue and N. 11th Street has seen little progress when it comes to turndown service. What could jump-start the stalled project? How about $15 million in government-backed financing?the same funds that were earmarked for Emmitt Smith's Harlem hotel. Stiff arm! Officials fear Smith's project won't break ground in time to qualify for the tax-exempt benefits, so they're in talks with Two Trees about 80 Wythe Avenue, the Journal reports. But some accuse Two Trees of inflating the number of jobs the 73-room hotel will create, and question the project's community benefits. What, like the Northside couldn't use another snazzy new place to drink? The vote to approve the financing is on Tuesday.
