It still looks like a wasteland, but the big slap of concrete in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint DMZ is inching ever closer to its rebirth as the renovated McCarren Park Pool. Or, as the Post puts it following a recent behind-the-scenes tour of the $50 million redo, "That empty feeling in Greenpoint and Williamsburg's booming residential heart? Gone." Soon enough, Greenpoint and Williamsburg will have a heart of two Olympic-size pools, a diving area, a gym and conditioning area, a spray pond and spray fountains, a volleyball court, and a restored brick entrance and arch. And?brace?the entire project is still on track for a 2012 ribbon-cutting, which means Mayor Bloomberg and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz might want to start practicing their diving.
