And now, the latest from Racked NY, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.
1) Soho: This week's sign of the apocalypse: American Eagle Outfitters' new Soho flagship opened to a line of nearly 1,000 customers waiting since 4:30 a.m. Though, given all the Hollister hysteria across the street, we're not sure why we're surprised.
2) Midtown: The NBA Store is ditching its digs on Fifth Avenue and looking for a new space. Why? The rent is too damn high. It's estimated that the store's annual rent bill is $77 million per year. That's a lot of Kobe jerseys.
3) Dumbo: Dumbo has a thriving new media/tech scene, but apparently it's not thriving enough to support Apple geekville Mikey's Hook-Up, which is moving back to Williamsburg. Or maybe their stuff just doesn't break enough.
