This week's top dish from Eater NY, Curbed's restaurant, bar, and nightlife blog...
1) LES: Think Lower East Side nightlife is on the decline? If so, we direct you to two new establishments. First, Beauty & Essex, from the Stanton Social team, which will have its pawn shop and a nightly light show. And then there's the multi-level Hotel Chantelle (above), which will have French colonial food, a lounge accessed by skeleton key and an "Edward scissorhandian topiary garden." Your new Lower East Side!)
2) UES: Sad news today regarding a Second Avenue legend. Elaine Kaufman, the proprietress of literary haunt Elaine's, died at the age of 81. Famed Elaine's regulars past and present include Gay Talese, Woody Allen, Tom Wolfe and many more.
3) Coney Island: A look back on the illustrious history and sad demise of Childs, the iconic Coney Island boardwalk restaurant. Includes vintage menu porn!
4) East Village: After 17 years on East 1st Street, Thai joint The Elephant is calling it quiets?and selling off all it stuff. Perhaps those DOH shutdowns weren't good for business.
