East Harlem Firehouse Conversion; Bollards to Protect TSA Gropers

New, 2 comments

EAST HARLEM?It broke ground way back in 2007, but the El Barrio Firehouse?the conversion of a landmark firehouse at 174 East 104th Street into a state-of-the-art media center?is not set to open until 2011. However! The center's Facebook page just got some updated photos and renderings. Pretty cool stuff. [El Barrio Firehouse]

QUEENS, NEWARK?The controversy surrounding the MTA-installed protective bollards outside the Atlantic Terminal LIRR terminal in Brooklyn hasn't stopped the Port Authority from using the big rocks to thwart terror. The PA just announced that it will be spending $120 million to install bollards outside JFK, LaGuardia and Newark terminals. Sounds like a lot of money, but you can't argue with this intent: "The bollards will create hardened barriers to prevent vehicles from crashing into passenger terminals." [CurbedWire Inbox]
