Park Slope Historic District Getting Supersized?

New, 3 comments

The Park Slope Historic District already includes nearly 2,000 buildings, but now that any old neighborhood can get landmark protection?even places in Queens!?we knew the Slopers would step it up. Indeed, the Landmarks Preservation Commission is studying a proposal to extend the current district by thousands of new buildings, covering all of Park Slope between Flatbush Avenue and 15th Street, and Prospect Park West to Fifth Avenue. The massive extension, proposed by the Park Slope Civic Council, will probably be handled in phases so that the LPC can still have time to work on non-Slopey things. We bet developers will be thrilled to hear this news. [Courier Life/NYP]
