The details about Coney Island's future have been trickling out frustratingly slowly, but no longer! Today, Mayor Bloomberg and amusement park operator Central Amusement International spilled some info on Coney's next two years. This summer, 19 rides will open in "Luna Park at Coney Island." By 2011, there will also be the "Scream Zone at Coney Island," which will add roller coasters, go-karts, and other rides to amusement areas. (And it's all still part of a broader plan that includes 5,000 new housing units.) This year's attractions should open by Memorial Day. Anyone want to be first in line for the human slingshot ride?
